I Couldn't Sleep At All Last Night

Do you wake up throughout the night feeling breathless? Do you snore loudly? Do you feeling drowsy during the day and don’t understand why?

If you find yourself with these symptoms you may be one of more than 12 million Americans who suffer from sleep apnea

Sleep apnea is a condition in which breathing stops periodically during sleep...as many as 20-30 times per hour. If you suffer from sleep apnea, each time you're breathing stops, the resulting lack of oxygen alerts your brain, which temporarily wakes you up to restart proper breathing. Because the time spent awake is so brief, most people with sleep apnea don't remember waking up at all. However, the constant wake-sleep-wake-sleep cycle precludes the deep sleep that refreshes the body and sufferers are frequently drowsy during the day.

The following symptoms can indicate sleep apnea. If you suffer from one or more of these...give Lenz Orthodontics a call.

  • Insomnia or difficulty sleeping
  • Loud snoring at night
  • Waking up at night short of breath
  • Snorting or choking sounds during the night
  • Headaches upon waking in the morning
  • Falling asleep unintentionally during the day
  • Extreme drowsiness throughout the day

Sleep apnea is considered a serious medical problem if left untreated. Basic treatments range from weight loss to changing the position in which you sleep. Beyond that, oral devices, prescribed by Dr. Mark Lenz, can be used to position the mouth in such a way that prevents throat blockage, thus preventing more severe sleep apnea issues from occurring.

If you are experiencing sleep apnea schedule a consultation today and we can determine what treatment is best for you!
