You're Retired...Smile!

As we encourage senior citizens to be active today, we also want to remind you to stay current on your health visits and check-ups. This includes visits to your orthodontist

Are you a senior who has considered orthodontic treatment? If so...You may be surprised to know that seniors can benefit from adult braces

If you are retired and considering adult braces in the Racine or Waterford area we encourage you to visit Lenz Orthodontics.  You may not be aware but retirement age is the perfect time to do the things you’ve always wanted to do...including getting the smile you have always dreamed of. If your smile has been something that’s bothered you throughout the years, the time to change that is now.

When you compare getting braces as an adult to getting them as a child or adolescent, there are benefits.  When you’re an adult, you have a much wider variety of treatment options from traditional braces to ceramic braces and clear aligners

If you're a senior and interested in straightening your teeth, visit our office for a consultation to discuss adult braces. At Lenz Orthodontics, we can help you understand all of the benefits of a picture perfect smile.

I Couldn't Sleep At All Last Night

Do you wake up throughout the night feeling breathless? Do you snore loudly? Do you feeling drowsy during the day and don’t understand why?

If you find yourself with these symptoms you may be one of more than 12 million Americans who suffer from sleep apnea

Sleep apnea is a condition in which breathing stops periodically during sleep...as many as 20-30 times per hour. If you suffer from sleep apnea, each time you're breathing stops, the resulting lack of oxygen alerts your brain, which temporarily wakes you up to restart proper breathing. Because the time spent awake is so brief, most people with sleep apnea don't remember waking up at all. However, the constant wake-sleep-wake-sleep cycle precludes the deep sleep that refreshes the body and sufferers are frequently drowsy during the day.

The following symptoms can indicate sleep apnea. If you suffer from one or more of these...give Lenz Orthodontics a call.

  • Insomnia or difficulty sleeping
  • Loud snoring at night
  • Waking up at night short of breath
  • Snorting or choking sounds during the night
  • Headaches upon waking in the morning
  • Falling asleep unintentionally during the day
  • Extreme drowsiness throughout the day

Sleep apnea is considered a serious medical problem if left untreated. Basic treatments range from weight loss to changing the position in which you sleep. Beyond that, oral devices, prescribed by Dr. Mark Lenz, can be used to position the mouth in such a way that prevents throat blockage, thus preventing more severe sleep apnea issues from occurring.

If you are experiencing sleep apnea schedule a consultation today and we can determine what treatment is best for you!

May the Floss Be With You

Every year on May 4th most of us observe National Star Wars Day. “May the Fourth Be With You” is a popular term often used on this day...in correlation with ”May the Force Be With You”.

At Lenz Orthodontics, we like to say "May the Floss Be With You" to remind you to floss those teeth...Get it?

This May 4th, remember to avoid the dark side and keep those pearly whites bright and clean by brushing and flossing! Check out the fundamentals of flossing below for additional insight to keep your oral hygiene at its best.

Flossing Fundamentals
Using a floss threader...Pull one end of floss through the threader, and then push the threader — carrying with it the free end of the floss — under the archwire.
Grasp the floss on each end and slide it up and down the sides of both teeth, and all the way under the gums until you hear a squeaky sound.
Lastly, pull it out and use a new section of floss for the next area.

To Keep your teeth and gums clean and healthy;
you need to floss at least once per day.

And don't forget...Lenz Orthodontics is proud to offer our patients the Sonicare oral hygiene program. It is our goal to help our patients have beautiful, healthy smiles as soon as possible. We believe that flossing and brushing with Prevident toothpaste and a Sonicare toothbrush will help you get there!

Now go...
May the Floss Be With You!
