Lenz Orthodontics understands it may be difficult to figure out how to floss when you have braces. With all those wires, brackets, bands getting in the way, going from no braces, to a mouth full can be a little overwhelming.

But as overwhelming as it may really need to floss. Flossing is extremely important while you’re a patient at Lenz Orthodontics because flossing regularly will keep your mouth healthy and your smile will look amazing when your braces are removed.

If you are new to flossing with braces we’ve gathered some tips and tricks you can use to help you conquer this task.

Carefully Thread the Floss: You should thread the floss under the wire before passing it between your teeth with a floss threader.

Use a Proxy Brush: There is a special type of brush you can use called a proxy brush that can assist you trapped food particles. The bristles on this brush are great for getting under the wire and between your teeth.

Use a Water Flosser: Another great tool for flossing with braces is a water flosser. These flossers can be fixed with a special orthodontic tip on them that is designed to remove food particles and bacteria from your braces and between your teeth.

Use Waxed Floss: Waxed flosses are less likely to get caught in your braces or tear when they come into contact with the metal braces.

If you are having a difficult time flossing with your braces, or if you would like more tips on how to successfully care for your teeth, our friendly team at Lenz Orthodontics is happy to help.

International Talk Like a Pirate Day was founded by John Baur and Mark Summers (two friends from Oregon) back in 1995 and is the only holiday on the calendar that gives everyone around the world the excuse to talk like a pirate the all day long for the sheer fun of it.

Pirate lingo is rich and complicated, but if you can master a few key phrases, you’ll be able to convince anyone you are a true pirate in the making.

Ahoy! - Hello or Hi…but can sometimes be used for Goodbye.

Ahoy, matey or Ahoy, me hearties - Hello, my friend.

Arrr! - This one is often confused with Arrrgh, which is of course the sound you make when you are displeased with something. Arrr! can mean, “yes”, “I agree”, or “I’m happy".

Avast! - Stop and check this out or pay attention.

Aye! - Yes

Aye aye! - I'll get right on that.

Blimey! - An exclamation of surprise.

Blow me down – Used as an expression of shock or disbelief.

Matey - A way to address someone in a friendly fashion.

Shiver me timbers - Comparable to the expression “Holy cow!”
